Ocean Edge

Ocean Edge is proving to be a very versatile location for your wedding. During a recent visit with Laurel Hartman; the Director of Catering and Conference Planning, Tom Davis and I learned first hand about the exciting features and changes to this classic location.
From an intimate wedding of 50 to a raging affair of over 300, Ocean Edge can accommodate your event and house everyone on property. Ocean Edge boasts the largest inventory of guest rooms on the Cape. With the stunning views from their 1/4 mile of private beach to their just completed Jack Nickaus designed golf course, Ocean Edge has something for everyone.
Laurel is also a certified Sommelier and can help you with your wine selections or come up with your own signature wedding drink. How cool is that? At the time of the interview, Laurel had openings for this coming August and is booking the new 4600 square foot ballroom that will be completed in March of 2009. Can't wait to see that!

Wychmere Harbor

Last Thursday, Amy Dykens and myself had an opportunity to sit down with Karen Rood of Wychmere Harbor and had a chance to tour the newly renovated property. Amy and I both agreed, the renovations are fantastic. Gone are the dark wooden room dividers and half walls leaving what may be the largest function room on the Cape, brighter and much more spacious The pronounced nautical theme, a staple for many years has been toned down and replaced by a decided elegance in choice of wall décor, fixtures, and facilities. A favorite location of both Amy and myself, Wychmere Harbor now has to be considered one of the Cape’s premier wedding and reception locations.

We also had a chance to ask Karen several questions pertaining to Wychmere Harbor and the wedding industry in general. As far as what brides are looking for in 2008, Karen felt that destination weddings, fairytale elegance, attention to detail and of course oceanfront and beach access were what most brides touring Wychmere Harbor are looking for. And as far as how potential clients are finding Wychmere Harbor………web, web, and web. No real surprise there, just further evidence that the web is where advertising dollars are best spent.

We wondered why brides are choosing Wychmere Harbor and Karen had some definite opinions on this. Wychmere has for years provided the option of ceremonies on property. Having a beautiful setting for exchanging vows, overlooking Wychmere Channel and Nantucket Sound. Along with an indoor ceremony alternative located on the channel which is perfect for the cooler or inclement weather days. This year, Wychmere is also offering the option of actual “on the beach” ceremonies, right on Wychmere property. Their 300 foot wide sandy beach is groomed daily and is over a ¼ of a mile long. Wychmere beach provides the perfect setting for a true Cape Cod wedding. Amy and I were hard pressed to think of another reception location that can offer this particular “Cape Cod” ceremony. Wychmere is indeed a one of a kind location, with an experienced staff and kitchen, a one wedding only per day advantage, beach and waterfront photo opportunities, unbeatable scenery and easy and ample parking.

And how does Karen decide which vendors to recommend from season to season. Karen often reviews the final product, she watches how vendors interact with clients, how detailed they are, how quickly they respond to inquiries and of course, personality and compatibility with the Wychmere staff. Karen also mentioned that she rarely refers “off-Cape” vendors and that when “off-Cape” vendors do work at Wychmere it is usually people the bride knows from previous experience.

And what does Karen tell the brides on their wedding day? “Take a minute and just reflect on everything, soak it all in”. Great advice.

The Ridge Club

Recently Russ and I visited with event planner Terry Morris of the Ridge Club in Sandwich. Terry comes to the Ridge Club with years of wedding planning experience from Willowbend. The Ridge Club offers a unique setting for any wedding ceremony, reception & rehearsal dinner. It's beautifully manicured gardens offer a great setting for your photos!
Their outdoor grill is simply fabulous for hors d'oeuvres! Chef Michael Pillarella prepares the most delicious meals. Terry can accommodate up to 180 guests and while she is pretty much booked for 08 she still has Saturday openings for a late fall or early winter wedding.
